In the first quarter of 2025, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine purchased 36 apartments for military personnel, spending about 104 million hryvnias on this. Thus, in just three months, the defense department exceeded the result of the entire 2024, when 33 apartments were purchased for the needs of the army.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense. The department notes that the housing was purchased on the secondary market according to the results of an open competition, which guaranteed the transparency of the process. The average area of each apartment exceeds 52 square meters. After the completion of official procedures, the new apartments will be transferred to the balance of the Kyiv Housing and Operational Department and distributed in accordance with current legislation.
"The acquisition of new housing for the military is another step towards creating proper living conditions for our defenders and their families. The Ministry will continue to implement effective mechanisms to provide military personnel with high-quality and comfortable apartments," emphasized Deputy Minister of Defense, Brigadier General of Justice Serhiy Melnyk.
In addition to current housing purchases, the Ministry of Defense is actively working on long-term solutions. A draft Concept of the State Target Program for Providing Housing for Military Personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Persons Discharged from Military Service has already been developed. This program aims to systematically address the housing needs of military personnel.
Another important step was the approval of the Algorithm for Excluding Service Housing from the Relevant Funds of the Ministry of Defense. This will allow many families of military personnel living in service apartments to obtain the right to permanent residence in them, which will significantly increase the level of social protection of the defenders of Ukraine.
In parallel, the ministry is preparing a technical task force for the digitalization of housing registration processes. This initiative aims to ensure maximum transparency in housing allocation procedures and effective control over the use of the housing stock.
