Spanish scientists have developed a unique intimate gel that could become an important tool in the fight against sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS. This new product, intended for both men and women, is highly effective, providing protection for a period of 18 hours to 24 hours. During testing, the gel showed a result of 90% effectiveness, which even exceeds the level of protection provided by condoms.
A distinctive feature of the new gel is its composition. The drug is based on microscopic dendrimer particles 2G-S16, which protect epithelial cells and the immune system from viruses such as HIV, and have anti-inflammatory properties. These particles prevent irritation and reduce the risk of infection, which makes the gel not only an effective remedy for AIDS, but also an excellent prevention of other sexually transmitted diseases.
The gel is designed in such a way that it can be applied to the organs of only one of the partners, and this will be enough to protect during several sexual acts. This greatly simplifies the use of the drug and makes it convenient for those who are looking for safe alternatives to traditional methods of contraception.
One of the significant advantages of the gel is that it does not cause irritation, does not affect the vaginal microflora and does not have a negative impact on reproductive function. This makes it safe for women who can use it without risk to health.
The project, headed by Dr. Maria Munoz, is not yet complete, but scientists are confident in the success of their development. Currently, they continue to work on bringing the gel to the stage of commercial release. The product is expected to enter the market in 3-5 years after completing all the necessary tests and obtaining patents.
According to the developers, the cost of the gel will not be high, since the molecule responsible for its action has a low price. Although similar developments exist, for example, in Australia, they are still at the experimental stage and are unlikely to be able to offer such an effective solution in the near future.
