Pensions in Ukraine have increased: how payments changed in 2025

In March 2025, the Ukrainian government indexed pension payments, as a result of which more than 10 million pensioners received increased payments. The growth rate was 11.5%, which was part of planned measures to support socially vulnerable categories of the population.

Average pension size after indexation

According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, after the indexation, the average pension in the country reached 6,345 hryvnias. The head of government also emphasized that all pension payments for March were made on time.

"We clearly fulfill our social obligations to citizens and will continue this policy in the future," said Shmyhal.

Automatic increase for working pensioners

The next stage of payment increases is expected from April 1. Almost 630 thousand working pensioners will receive an automatic pension increase taking into account the updated insurance experience.

This means that pensioners who continue to work will receive a recalculation of payments without the need to submit additional applications.

How the indicators for calculating pensions have increased

One of the key factors in the increase in pensions was the increase in the average wage indicator used to calculate payments.

According to the Pension Fund, the average wage for February 2025, which is taken into account when calculating pensions, was 18,589.38 hryvnias. This is 3.3 thousand hryvnias more than it was for the same period in 2024.

Age-related supplements: who can receive supplements

The government also provided for additional age-related supplements to pensions in 2025. Pensioners who have reached a certain age can count on the following supplements:
- 70 years old - supplement of 300 hryvnias;
- 75 years – supplement of 456 hryvnias;
- 80 years – supplement of 570 hryvnias.

However, the main condition for receiving an age supplement is that the total amount of pension payments should not exceed 10,340.35 hryvnias.

Supplements for long insurance experience

In addition to indexation and age supplements, pensions will continue to increase by 1% for each additional year of experience above the established norm. This means that:
- Men will receive +1% to their pension for each year of experience over 35 years.
- Women – for each year of experience over 30 years (or 25 and 20 years for pensioners who were granted a pension before October 2011).

Thus, the pension system continues to adapt to today's realities, providing Ukrainians with higher payments and financial support in a difficult economic situation.
