Return of Ukrainians Home: 70% Ready Provided Country Develops

The vast majority of Ukrainians who were forced to leave the country due to the war are ready to return to their homeland. However, their decision depends on further changes in Ukraine - almost 70% of Ukrainians are considering returning provided the situation stabilizes and the country's economic development.

This was stated in an interview with BBC Ukraine by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov. According to him, about 30% of citizens are ready to return immediately after the situation in the country stabilizes. Another 40% will make a decision depending on how successfully Ukraine recovers from the war.

"Our estimates show that after the cessation or completion of the war, about 30% of Ukrainians will return home within six months. At the same time, for another 40%, the level of economic development and security will be the determining factor," Chernyshov noted.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that after the war, the state will work to create a favorable business climate, attract investments, liberalize the tax system, and provide security guarantees for citizens. These factors may be key to the return of Ukrainians and the further restoration of the country.

"Competition for Ukrainians will be high. After all, the European countries that have accepted our citizens are also interested in their preservation. We must become competitive in order to stimulate the return of at least 6 million Ukrainians. Without this, it will be impossible to double GDP, ensure stable economic development, and implement large-scale reconstruction of the country," Chernyshov emphasized.

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister also stated that about a third of Ukrainians who left the country due to the war seek to return after the establishment of stable peace and security guarantees. At the same time, another part of citizens has already adapted to life in the EU and does not plan to return.
