  • How Much Liquid Should a Pregnant Woman Drink for Health

    Опубликовано: 2025-02-07 08:48:09

It is no secret that water plays a key role in the functioning of our body, especially during pregnancy. Since we are 80% water, maintaining normal fluid levels in the body is critical. However, there are special recommendations for fluid intake for expectant mothers, and they may change depending on the trimester of pregnancy.

In the first trimester, when toxicosis is a frequent companion of pregnancy, it is important to ensure sufficient fluid intake to avoid dehydration. This is especially true if a woman suffers from vomiting, which often happens during this period. Water helps remove toxic substances and metabolic products, which is important for both the health of the mother and the proper development of the child. On average, the amount of fluid is calculated depending on the woman's weight: with a weight of 60 kg, you need to drink 2.3 liters of water per day, with a weight of 70 kg - 2.55 liters, and with a weight of 80 kg - 3 liters.

From the second trimester, new recommendations related to salt consumption appear. It is salt that retains fluid in the body, which can lead to swelling. Therefore, it is important to monitor the amount of salt in the diet, and also remember that the amount of water should be left at the level necessary for the normal functioning of the body, but not exceed it.

In the third trimester, it is also worth carefully monitoring the amount of fluid, but it is important not to reduce it abruptly. Salt should be minimized to prevent swelling and other unpleasant symptoms. However, a lack of water can lead to serious problems, such as dehydration, which will negatively affect both the woman's condition and the health of the baby. Therefore, you need to drink water regularly, but in small portions, so as not to overload the body.

If thirst does not give rest, it is better to drink water in small sips, holding it in the mouth for a few seconds. This will help the body absorb the liquid faster, and the thirst will go away without causing discomfort. This approach will also help to avoid excess fluid, which can cause swelling.

It is important to remember that all recommendations for fluid consumption during pregnancy should be given by a doctor. If you notice changes in your well-being, such as swelling or, on the contrary, a feeling of intense thirst, be sure to consult your gynecologist. Only a specialist can tell you exactly how much water you need in each specific case.
