Cabinet of Ministers has decided to attract 300 million euros from the EIB to support the energy sector

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has decided to attract 300 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the country's energy sector. Of this amount, 200 million euros will be allocated to the restoration of three hydroelectric power plants that were damaged as a result of shelling by Russian troops.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a government meeting on January 28.

In particular, we are talking about 200 million euros from the EIB to restore the Kaniv, Kremenchuk and Dniprovsk hydroelectric power plants. These facilities were seriously damaged as a result of shelling by Russia. The specified funds will be used to purchase the necessary equipment to restore the damaged plants.

Shmyhal also added that a decision was made that will allow receiving another 100 million euros from the EIB for investments in the modernization of central heating and increasing the energy efficiency of Ukrainian communities. These funds will be used to purchase new boilers, engines, turbines and other necessary equipment.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine has a secured resource to finance all planned expenses in 2025. "Within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program, we will receive more than 12 billion euros from the European Union this year. We are confidently fulfilling our obligations under this program. In the last quarter of last year, we achieved 13 specified indicators. The plans for the first quarter of 2025 are to achieve another 16 indicators," Shmyhal noted.

Thus, Ukraine receives significant support for the restoration of energy infrastructure, in particular important hydroelectric power plants, which will help improve energy stability and efficiency in the country.
