  • Ukrzaliznytsia is reviewing ticket prices to Poland and Hungary: what will change from February

    Опубликовано: 2025-01-29 10:00:32

From February 1, Ukrzaliznytsia is reducing discounts on international trains to Poland and Hungary, which will lead to an increase in the cost of tickets on these routes. At the same time, the cost of travel to Austria and Moldova will remain unchanged. These changes are related to the need to compensate for the company's growing costs.

The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia explained that earlier, in order to popularize international connections, the company agreed with its partners - railway operators of neighboring countries - on special discounts. However, due to the increase in the cost of energy resources and consumables, losses from passenger transportation in 2023 reached 18 billion hryvnias, which was the reason for the revision of the tariff policy.

In particular, in the direction of Poland, the cost of tickets will increase depending on the class of the car. In first-class Intercity+ and SV cars, the price will increase by 20–27%, and in compartment cars – by 9–27%. In addition, passengers will have to pay more for tickets on popular routes, such as Kyiv - Warsaw (an increase of 37%) and Kyiv - Budapest (by 17% in SV and by 21% in compartment).

As noted, passengers planning trips in February still have the opportunity to purchase tickets at the old prices. Until January 31, 2025 inclusive, tickets for the specified routes can be issued in the mobile application and on the official website of Ukrzaliznytsia at the current tariffs.

At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that the review of discounts is a necessary step to stabilize the company's financial condition. However, the carrier assures that it continues to work to maintain the availability of international connections for Ukrainians.

Despite the price increase, the company urges passengers to plan their trips in advance, as this will minimize the impact of tariff changes. At the same time, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to improve the quality of service to meet the expectations of its customers on international routes.
