In November 2024, the volume of electricity imports into Ukraine decreased by 9.4% compared to October, amounting to almost 165 thousand MWh. These data were published in the monitoring report of ExPro Electricity, which analyzes the dynamics of energy supplies.
The most significant reduction in supplies was recorded in the Hungarian and Moldovan directions, where volumes decreased by 44%. In contrast, imports from Poland increased significantly, doubling and reaching more than 40 thousand MWh. This direction became the second in terms of supply, second only to Slovakia, which provided 33% of total electricity imports in November. Poland took 25% in the structure of supplies.
The most active day in terms of imports was November 1, when 12 thousand MWh of electricity arrived in the country. The lowest volume was recorded on November 10, when imports amounted to only 1 thousand MWh. This indicates significant variability in supplies, which depends on the current needs of the Ukrainian power system.
The average hourly import during the evening peak hours reached 470 MW, which is 27.6% of the technical transmission capacity, which is estimated at 1700 MW. This emphasizes the importance of imports as one of the elements of stable electricity supply during periods of increased consumption.
According to previous months, in the period January-September 2024, the key importers of electricity to Ukraine were D. Trading, Energy Company of Ukraine, DE Trading, Dniprostal-Energo and Sipiji Energy. Their activities continue to play an important role in providing the country with electricity.
The reduction in imports in November can be explained by both seasonal factors and changes in the operation of the Ukrainian energy system. However, the increase in supplies from Poland indicates the search for new areas of cooperation and diversification of import sources, which is an important step in the context of the country's energy independence.
