  • Great Britain increases the pressure on the Russian military-industrial complex: the largest sanctions have been introduced

    Опубликовано: 2024-11-08 10:00:38

The UK has introduced its most significant sanctions package against Russia's military-industrial complex and Russian-backed mercenaries from May 2023. The goal of the new restrictions is to undermine the supply of key components to the Russian military and counter the Kremlin's aggressive activities on the international stage, especially in regions where proxy groups operate, particularly in Africa.

According to a message on the official website of the British government, 56 new sanctions were announced. This package of restrictions is intended to disrupt the supply of equipment and resources needed by Putin's war machine and expose corruption schemes that support Kremlin proxy groups in African countries. According to British officials, these measures will help weaken Russia's ability to sustain wars and provoke instability abroad.

Among the key targets of the sanctions is the Russian-funded Africa Corps, a mercenary group that operates in sub-Saharan Africa, posing threats to security and stability on the African continent. Great Britain became the first G7 country to impose sanctions against the organization, underscoring London's desire to influence peace in the region.

In addition to proxy groups, sanctions also affected individual Russian enterprises and agents that support the country's military sector. The list of restrictions included a GRU agent involved in the Novachko poisoning incident in British Salisbury, as well as companies that supply critical components for the Russian military-industrial complex. As the government noted, the main objective of the sanctions is to deprive Russia of access to products and resources that support the illegal war in Ukraine.

Sanction restrictions have affected a number of companies from China, Turkey and Central Asia. These businesses manufacture and supply goods needed by the Russian military complex, including machine tools, microelectronics and parts for drones. This equipment is used to support the Kremlin's military operations in Ukraine, so the British government decided to take decisive measures to stop their supply.

Thus, Britain clearly stated its position on Russian aggression, increasing international pressure and limiting Russian military resources. The new sanctions, aimed at Russia's economic and military power, should be another step towards curbing the Kremlin's aggression and ensuring greater stability both in Ukraine and on the world stage.
