Many of us do not imagine our day without a cup of flavored coffee, especially when it is necessary to cope with tension and stress. However, how exactly this drink affects our state in stressful situations depends on the gender of the person. A recent study by British psychologists shed light on how coffee can help women and how it affects men.
During the experiment, participants were divided into two groups. One of them was offered to drink regular coffee with caffeine, and the other was offered a decaffeinated beverage. Both groups then performed a series of tasks including logic puzzles, memory and attention tests. The aim was to find out how caffeine affected their ability to concentrate and problem solve under stress.
The results showed that the women who drank caffeinated coffee completed the tasks faster and more efficiently than those who consumed the decaffeinated beverage. On average, they completed tasks a hundred seconds sooner and also performed better in memory and attention tests. This confirms that caffeine can have a stimulating effect on women's bodies, helping them adapt to stressful situations faster.
However, the effects of caffeine on men turned out to be slightly different. Male test subjects who drank regular coffee, on the contrary, performed tasks slower by twenty seconds compared to those who consumed a decaffeinated beverage. In addition, their performance in tests of memorizing information was worse. This may indicate that caffeine affects men differently, reducing their ability to concentrate under stress.
Despite caffeine's positive effects on women, researchers warn the need for moderation. Large doses of caffeine can be harmful to both women and men. Regular consumption of more than five cups of coffee a day can lead to negative health effects such as irritability, increased anxiety, and even cardiovascular problems.
Thus, coffee can indeed be an effective stress reliever, especially for women. However, it is worth remembering about reasonable restrictions and not to abuse this beverage to avoid possible negative health consequences.
