  • Resistance in the sky: Ukraine has more than 20 new fiber-optic-controlled drones

    Опубликовано: 2025-04-10 15:00:32

The war has accelerated the development of military technologies in Ukraine, and one of the main priorities remains the increase in the production of unmanned aerial vehicles. As President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in his address on April 7, since the beginning of 2025, more than 20 new certified drone models equipped with a fiber-optic control system have appeared in the country.

According to the president, Ukraine is intensively increasing the production of all types of drones - from the usual Mavic to high-precision long-range devices. In parallel, the possibilities of creating ground robotic complexes are expanding. Particular attention is paid to drones with a fiber-optic control system, which are less vulnerable to electronic warfare.

Currently, 11 Ukrainian enterprises have already begun serial production of such drones. Zelensky emphasized that the main goal is to achieve the maximum scale of production and supply. To this end, the president instructed to conclude direct contracts with domestic manufacturers.

Fiber-optic drones are a type of FPV drones, in which control and video communication are carried out not via radio waves, but via a fiber-optic cable. This approach ensures resistance to the enemy's radio-electronic influence, and therefore increases the effectiveness of their use in combat conditions. This is especially important given the high level of saturation of the front with electronic warfare equipment from the enemy.

It is worth mentioning that in December 2024, the government adopted a resolution that made the purchase of domestic drones and electronic warfare equipment a permanent procedure. Commanders of combat units were given the opportunity to independently purchase tactical drones without lengthy approvals from the General Staff and other military command structures, which significantly accelerated the process of supplies to the front.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense reported that since the beginning of 2025, each combat brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has received direct funding in the amount of 2.5 billion hryvnias per month. These funds are intended exclusively for the purchase of unmanned systems and allow for a rapid response to the needs of the front. This approach ensures flexibility and efficiency in the application of the latest technologies against the aggressor.
