  • Cybercrime on the rise: $1.38 billion worth of cryptocurrencies stolen in the first half of 2024

    Опубликовано: 2024-07-08 18:00:12

According to Reuters, the amount of cryptocurrencies stolen as a result of hacker attacks in the first half of 2024 increased to $1.38 billion from $657 million, which was recorded in the same period last year.

Over the past six months, there has been a significant increase in cybercrime, which is explained not only by the general increase in the price of cryptocurrencies, but also by the conduct of larger and more complex attacks. The average amount of theft also increased by one and a half times compared to the previous year.

According to the analysis, the high value of cryptocurrencies becomes the main motivation for hackers who carry out these attacks.

One of the biggest losses this year was the theft of about $308 million worth of bitcoins from the Japanese cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin. The company has officially classified the incident as an "unauthorized leak."

In addition, the list of significant cyber attacks also includes cases where hackers attacked crypto exchanges and cryptocurrency exchange platforms using various techniques, resulting in large financial losses for users and companies.

Experts emphasize the need to strengthen cyber security in the field of cryptocurrencies, develop and implement stricter protection measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In the context of the continuous growth of the digital economy and the increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies, criminals are looking for new ways to exploit system vulnerabilities, which requires appropriate measures from the authorities and enterprises to protect digital assets.
