Great Britain lags far behind its G-7 competitors when it comes to investment

According to Bloomberg, the UK has significantly lagged its G-7 rivals in terms of investment over the past thirty years, losing £1.9 trillion (about US$2.4 trillion).

According to the Institute for Public Policy Research, if UK investment had remained at the G-7 average over the past three decades, the country could have gained an extra £1.9tn. This indicates a significant loss of potential economic development due to insufficient investment resources.

Compared to other G-7 countries, Great Britain has the lowest investment figures for the third year in a row. This causes serious indignation among economic experts and means the need for strategic adjustments in the policy of attracting investments.

Despite its weak performance in total investment, the UK has a stronger position in the foreign direct investment sector, ranking second only to the US in the value of investment projects. This indicates the high attractiveness of the country for international investors, despite the general reverse trend.

It is also noted that international investors have become more optimistic about Great Britain after the economic and political instability caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, domestic investment in industrial and innovative development remains low, which limits the country's economic growth potential.

The study showed that Great Britain ranks 28th among the 31 countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in terms of business investment. This indicates the need to actively improve the policy of stimulating domestic investment processes.

Overall, the UK's future success on the international stage will depend heavily on its ability to attract high levels of investment, which is critical to ensuring economic stability and growth in the face of global challenges.
