  • Ukrainian drones continue to strike at Russia's energy infrastructure

    Опубликовано: 2024-05-21 14:00:39

Ukrainian drones continue to strike at Russia's energy infrastructure, causing approximately 14% of the country's oil refining capacity to be out of service. This happened against the backdrop of an escalating conflict and growing tensions on the Ukrainian front. According to the Pentagon's intelligence service, the attacks had a significant impact on domestic fuel prices in Russia, but had minimal impact on electricity production.

According to information published by Bloomberg, the loss of some refining capacity prompted Russia to increase domestic gasoline prices by 20-30% and led to a temporary suspension of exports to meet domestic demand.

To mitigate the impact of these strikes, the Russian authorities took several steps, including a ban on gasoline exports for six months starting in March. Imports of petroleum products from Belarus and Kazakhstan were also planned, and priority was given to transportation of petroleum products by rail.

The intelligence service's analysis covers only a two-month period, from the first attack on January 21 to March 24. However, given the continuation of the attacks, the situation may become much more complicated in the future.

According to the report, the attacks on energy facilities have had a limited impact on the supply of electricity to Russian military and civilians, although some interruptions have been noted.

These developments illustrate the complexity of geopolitical relations in the region and their impact on the economy and the lives of Russian residents in the context of the military conflict in eastern Ukraine.
