Regular consumption of chicken meat during childhood may significantly reduce the likelihood of developing gastric tumor disease in adulthood. According to a study from Harvard University in the US, this is the first confirmed scientific study showing a link between cancer risk and the type of meat consumed during adolescence.
The scientific observational study, which involved 20,000 women since the early 1990s, found that including chicken in the diet reduced the likelihood of colon tumors by 20% and rectal tumors by 50%.
Chicken meat also has a protective effect on the development of adenomas - precancerous growths that precede the appearance of cancer. Bowel cancer causes many deaths each year, especially since patients often ignore the first symptoms and seek help in the late stages of the disease.
It should be noted that among the main risk factors for bowel cancer are a diet rich in red meat and fat, as well as low physical activity. The role of diet in the formation of predisposition to this type of cancer is that the process of its development often takes decades.
The study emphasizes that the consumption of chicken significantly reduces the risk of colon cancer. It is important to note that the active consumption of red meat does not increase the incidence in women, compared to those who avoid this type of meat. Meanwhile, fish in the diet was found to have no protective effect against bowel cancer. However, it should be taken into account that this study was conducted exclusively in a female population.
