Vocational and technical education trends in 2024

The completion of the admissions campaign to vocational and technical educational institutions in Ukraine in 2024 revealed that the most sought-after professions among applicants are cook, auto mechanic, electric gas welder, confectioner, driver, and tractor driver. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The professions of cook, driver and locksmith occupy leading positions in vacancies on job search sites, which indicates a high demand for these specialties in the labor market. In general, in 2024, more than 94,000 students applied for vocational education, and 219,000 students started their studies. This indicator shows the active interest of young people in acquiring a profession.

Regional order fulfillment in 2024 reached 92%, which is 4% higher than in 2023. This positive trend indicates the successful adaptation of vocational and technical educational institutions to the needs of local business, which increases their competitiveness and efficiency.

Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi emphasized the importance of labor professions for the recovery of Ukraine's economy. He noted that young people should be aware of their important role in this process. "We need to explain that vocational education is a conscious choice. The motivation to choose these specialties should come not only from the demand of the labor market, but also from the students' understanding that they can fully realize themselves and build a successful career by choosing professional engineering," — the minister emphasized.

So, the current situation on the labor market shows a growing interest in vocational education. This shows that young people are aware of the importance of acquiring practical skills that are in demand in the modern world. The government and educational institutions should continue to work on the popularization of vocational education and its adaptation to market requirements in order to provide young people with the opportunity for development and a successful career.
