JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" received the first batch of rails weighing 25,000 tons from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This transfer was made as part of the "Emergency Recovery Program" initiated by the Japanese government.

This was reported by the press service of "Ukrzaliznytsia". The official certificate for rails was presented to Yevgeny Lyashchenko, the chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, by Matsuda Kuninori, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine.

According to the information, "Ukrzaliznytsia" will use the received R-65 rails for the restoration and overhaul of tracks with a width of 1,520 mm. This is extremely important, as the only domestic manufacturer of railway rails was destroyed in Mariupol at the start of the full-scale invasion. Lyashchenko noted that the company annually needs 70-100 thousand tons of rails for repairs.

During the war, railway workers are forced to restore damaged infrastructure almost every day. Rails received from Japan are planned to be used to repair the main highways in the directions Kyiv - Lviv, Kyiv - Odesa, Kyiv - Uzhgorod, Kyiv - Dnipro.

"I thank our partners and the government of Japan for the systematic support of Ukraine and the contribution to the reconstruction of the country's railway infrastructure," emphasized Yevhen Lyashchenko, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Ambassador Matsuda Kuninori expressed his respect for Ukrainian railway workers who work in particularly dangerous conditions. He noted that 25,000 tons of high-quality Japanese-made rails are equivalent to 190 km of railway track. These resources were procured and sent through JICA to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine's railway network, contributing to recovery and economic growth through increased flow of people and goods.

The first batch of rails has already arrived and was shipped to the Mostyska station. The entire supply of rails, weighing 25,000 tons, will arrive by the end of 2024, providing the necessary resources for the further restoration of Ukraine's railway infrastructure.
