European dentists have conducted a study identifying some vegetables that, despite their general health benefits to the body, can cause damage to teeth.
Researchers from the European Dental Association have published a list of vegetables that are potential sources of tooth decay and gum problems.
While all the vegetables listed are rich in vitamins and minerals on their own, they also contain acids such as oxalic acid, malic acid and succinic acid. It is these acids that can trigger the development of tooth enamel and gum disease.
Among the vegetables that pose potential dangers are eggplant, paprika and bell peppers, sorrel, patissons, asparagus, zucchini and zucchini. Experts from the dental association recommend not to give up consuming these vegetables, as they are a source of important vitamins and minerals such as C, A, B group, magnesium, potassium, iron, pectin and fiber.
It is important to note that no cooking method completely destroys oral hazardous enzymes and acids. However, you can mitigate their negative effects with a simple mouthwash (or better yet, brushing) after every meal that includes the aforementioned vegetables.
