Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tilvar has confirmed an important incident on the border with Ukraine, involving the downing of a Russian drone on Romanian territory. The incident was the result of an attack on a Ukrainian port on the Danube River, which is a common border between Romania and Ukraine.
According to information provided by CNN, Minister Angel Tilvar confirmed: "We have covered a very large area, including the area that has been publicly discussed, and I confirm that pieces that may be from the drone have been found in this area." The debris will be sent for further examination to determine the origin and purpose of the drone.
Earlier last week, the Romanian Ministry of Defense denied reports that a Russian drone had crashed on their territory, but new information confirms otherwise.
Following the incident, the Romanian authorities decided to take additional measures to protect their airspace. Constantin Spinu, a spokesman for the Romanian Ministry of Defense, said: "All procedural actions necessary in this situation have been taken and will continue. We have taken concrete measures to strengthen technical capabilities and monitor the situation in the adjacent port infrastructure of Ukraine in order to ensure the safety of the airspace."
The incident occurred on the night of September 4, when the Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine for the second time with drones. The unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the port infrastructure of the Odesa region on the Danube River.
After this attack, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russian drones had fallen on the territory of Romania, but Bucharest initially denied this information.
According to British intelligence, the drones launched by Russia attacked targets only 200 meters from the Romanian border, indicating that Russia intends to carry out aggressive actions around NATO territory.
